This Snapple ad features a black man liking the tea and an Asian man liking the lemonade in the Snapple. They then get into color coordinated outfits and fight in various odd ways. The whole yellow vs. black color scheme is either clever or problematic as are the white people watching the people of color struggle. Does the ad reduce individuals to a simplistic racial color code. If one of the items in the beverage involved the color red (an apple infusion?), would having a Native American involved make this worse? What about a white chocolate combination beverage with a white person, or even an albino playing a part? Is this a visual metaphor for the struggle between Asian-American groups and African-Groups over affirmative action? I do not think its the latter, but otherwise I am not sure how seriously to take this ad. Original tip off for this post came from disgrasian.com.
